APEC3351: Political Economy of Food and Agriculture

This is a course on the political economy of food and agriculture. More than just a course on food policy, this course will look at the various ways the economics and politics of food and agriculture interact, of which food policy is only a subset. Because food markets are interdependent across borders, we will not limit ourselves only to the US. We will instead take a global view of food and agriculture by looking at the issues facing food producers, food consumers, and policy makers worldwide. We will cover topics as varied as agricultural subsidies, food prices, food insecurity, agricultural trade, food waste, the triple burden of malnutrition, agriculture and the environment, agribusiness and ?Big Food,? sustainability, genetic engineering, food safety, and so on.
